Make money sharing your car

Put your car to work

Earn £650+ a month by renting out your car whenever it's not in use

What is car sharing?

Car sharing enables car owners to rent out their vehicles to nearby renters in exchange for money. Think of it like Airbnb for cars.

It’s a great way to earn extra income whenever your vehicle is not in use. Our keyless technology allows renters to book and unlock your car without you having to lift a finger.

Why share your car?

By renting out your car, you can help members of your community get to where they need to be. Car sharing also helps reduce CO2 emissions by decreasing the demand for more cars. With driver telematics to monitor all renter behaviour and contactless car collection, sharing your car has never been easier.

Insurance

Our insurance partner, QBE, provides fully comprehensive insurance during the full rental period (pick up to drop off) with a replacement value of up to £50,000.

Telematics

Driver telematics are a core security measure that track renter behaviour during each rental. With telematics, we can keep an eye on speed, acceleration, braking and the car’s location, so you can be confident your car is always being driven with care.

Security

Our KarshareGo technology uses facial recognition to securely authenticate renters when unlocking your car. All renters go through a thorough licence and ID verification process before renting.

Fuel and mileage

Our KarshareGo technology records fuel and mileage levels so you can always know where you stand at the end of each rental. We use smart data to instantly credit your account in the event of over-mileage or under-fuelling by a renter.

Kudos credits

We like to reward safe driving, which is why we give Kudos credits to a renter when they achieve a good driving score. Karshare is the only car sharing platform that monitors renter behaviour and offers an incentive for driving responsibly.

FAQ

How does car sharing work?
Car sharing enables car owners to rent out their vehicles to drivers in the area. The entire renting process takes place through our mobile app. Owners have full control over when they want to share their car. Once a renter has selected a vehicle and verified their licence, they will pick up their car and start driving. The Karshare app will act as a virtual key to lock and unlock the vehicle, thanks to our KarshareGo technology.
How does insurance work?
When your car is rented, it is fully insured under Karshare’s comprehensive insurance policy, provided by QBE. Your own insurance is not affected. For more information on our policy, please click here.
In the unlikely event that your vehicle is damaged during a rental, Karshare will immediately carry out an investigation and take care of organising any repair work required. Should a vehicle have to be taken away for repairs, we will provide you with a courtesy car.
We ask that owners sharing their vehicle maintain a comprehensive insurance policy and up-to-date MOT on their vehicle at all times.
Vehicle requirements
To list your vehicle on Karshare it needs to be the following:
● Less than 13 years old
● Less than 100,000 miles on the clock
● Roadworthy (insured, taxed and have valid MOT)
● Have a replacement value of not more than £50,000
● Be in an insurance group of 1-34
● Not be an import
● Not have a CAT S or CAT N advisory
● For our keyless technology to work we, vehicles must either have a standard blade turn key ignition or proximity push button start. Keys that need to be inserted into the dashboard unfortunately aren't compatible.
What happens if I receive a fine when I wasn’t driving?
If you receive notice of a fine (e.g. a speeding offence or parking ticket) and it occurred during a Karshare rental booking, please get in touch and we will ensure it is taken care of. You will never be out of pocket for fines that occurred while you were not the driver.
How do you ensure my car is kept clean and sanitised?
Karshare is committed to maintaining cleaning and hygiene standards for the Karshare community.
The very best sharing experience relies on vehicles being cleaned, sanitised and cleared of personal items by owners, and returned by renters in the same condition as collected.
For more information on our cleaning please click here.
How does fuel and mileage work?
Karshare operates a fair fuel policy to ensure that owners and renters are treated fairly. We record how much fuel is in the vehicle at the beginning and end of each rental. The renter is charged for any missing fuel if they do not return the vehicle at the same fuel level. If a renter returns the car with more fuel than they started with, we will refund them the difference. To ensure that there is enough fuel left for the next person, we ask renters that they do not return the car with less than a quarter of a tank.
All our vehicles have a daily mileage limit which is set by the owner. If a renter exceeds this limit, they will be charged an additional cost of £0.30 per mile, which is paid to the car owner via the rental earnings.
