With car sharing, you rent the car you choose. So whether you’re looking for a budget friendly way to get around or a sportier ride to let your hair down, we’ve got you covered. Our peer-to-peer car sharing system means that you are not paying the large overheads that traditional car rental companies charge for when storing, servicing and maintaining a fleet of rental cars. This means that we are able to offer Coventry cheaper car rentals. If you have recently scrapped your car, you may be eligible for up to £3000 in credits from Transport for West Midlands, which can cover the cost of car sharing.
Car sharing involves two sets of people: vehicle owners and renters. Owners rent their cars to members of the Coventry community, who pay a fee for the usage. These fees can be paid for with Coventry Mobility credits.
For renters, the benefits are numerous. Your rental car is the car you choose online, the vehicles are located throughout Coventry and insurance and maintenance are all included in the price. This makes it convenient, quick and hassle free.
For owners, car sharing presents a useful stream of secondary income and, without the need to be physically present to hand over keys, it’s a stress-free way of making extra cash.
Coventry is the 9th largest city in England, located in the West Midlands. In 2017 it was announced that Coventry would be the 2021 UK City of Culture, putting its arts and culture scene centre stage. The city is surrounded by the West Midlands Green Belt, an area maintained for agricultural purposes and outdoor leisure.
Historically, Coventry played a major role throughout the Middle Ages and in the 18th and 19th centuries became a key British centre for watch manufacturing as well as a hub for the British motor industry. Some of that legacy still remains as Coventry is home to the research and design headquarters of Jaguar Cars.
After suffering much damage during World War II, the city was completely redeveloped, featuring a host of modern architecture and new housing developments. Coventry and Volgograd became the world’s first ‘twin cities’ when they established a peaceful relationship during World War II. Since then, the city has been internationally recognised for its reconciliation efforts and holds an annual Peace Month in November.
Coventry is also home to one of the most reputable universities in the UK, the University of Warwick, which houses the Warwick Arts Centre, the largest multi-venue arts complex outside London.
If you are visiting Coventry, download the Karshare App to rent a vehicle from members of the community and enjoy a stress free, contactless rental experience in the city.
Coventry is full of historical and cultural venues, making it the perfect destination for an adventurous day in the city or a great starting off point if you are exploring the wider West Midlands. Here are 5 of our favourite sights and activities in Coventry for visitors:
Catch a show at the iconic Belgrade Theatre: Named after one of Coventry’s twin cities, Belgrade, the theatre was the first civic theatre to be built in Britain after World War II and is chock-a-block with inspirational performances for the whole family.
Take a dip at The Wave: Home to the largest wave pool in the UK, this indoor water park comes with six high-speed slides, a lazy river as well as a relaxing spa and invigorating fitness centre so everyone can enjoy their wet and wild day out in the heart of Coventry.
Pay a visit to Lady Godiva: The infamous tale of noblewoman Godiva who, according to folklore, rode naked on a horse through the streets of Coventry has inspired artists for centuries – including William Reid-Dick, who created a striking statue of her, now located in Coventry’s main square Broadgate.
Put the pedal to the metal: Honouring Coventry’s status as the birthplace of the bicycle is the Coventry Transport Museum, which has the largest publicly owned collection of British vehicles on the planet. Catch a glimpse of the two fastest cars in the world or participate in scientific experiments and engineering challenges bound to get your heart racing.
Spot a kingfisher: Located just outside the city is the beautiful Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve, a 220 acre reserve full of pools, meadows and woodland walking trails. A popular spot for bird watching, you may catch sight of kingfishers, ospreys or cuckoos. Get up close to the wildlife in one of the nine hides or follow the trail to discover fascinating fungi – whatever you do, you will feel instantly at one with nature.
