It's nice to escape the hustle and the bustle of the city life now and then, which is why we think it's worth a drive out of the city. With Christmas fast approaching, we wanted to share some of our favourite activities that take place just outside of the cities we live in. We're hoping this gives you some inspiration for your next rental, as these places aren't quite easily accessible by public transport and may require a car.
So let's kick off the series with our recommendations for those looking to escape London for the day.
Drive out of London
Christmas at Waddesdon Manor
With most routes out of London to get to Waddesdon Manor requiring at least two changes and a pretty long bus on the other side, Christmas at Waddesdon Manor is best accessed by car. It offers a stunning light show and a chance to soak up the Christmas atmosphere in the charming wooden chalets. Plus, the journey there offers some great country roads that you just cannot find within the M25.

RHS Garden Wisley
Wisley is a village in Guildford, and although it's picturesque enough to walk around and explore on its own, if you're in the area then you've got to visit RHS Garden Wisley. It's the second most visited paid entry garden in the UK after the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. You're certainly not going to run out of gardens to explore, as there's over 240 acres worth of it!

Hever Castle & Gardens
Dating back to the 13th century, Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII. Each year 'Christmas at Hever Castle' takes place, and this year they've themed the event around Pinocchio, including a Pinocchio Christmas Trail which will truly transport you out of the city. Their website recommends booking a taxi in advance to get to and from the train station, and there are no regular buses running, so it's best accessed by car.

Boxing day walk up Box Hill
Maybe you need to stretch your legs after an overload of mince pies? Clear the cobwebs with a 1.6 mile climb up Box Hill in Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Dorking. The air could not be fresher at the top of Box Hill, and when you live in London, sometimes all you need is a breath of fresh air.
